March 9th-13th

Dear Parents,

We have a field trip to the museum tomorrow! Please remember to dress your child in their yellow field trip t-shirt. We will be leaving around ten and returning to the school at twelve.

I wanted to thank all of you for your help last Thursday. Without your help it would not have been successful. I was so impressed by our wonderful children!! We had so many compliments even from Mrs. Alma Powell. She had to be escorted our early by security so she would not be bombarded by everyone at the conference. Mrs. Powell sent word through a representative that she loved our children and thanked us for coming!! If you have any pictures you would like to share please e-mail them to me. I will try to get a slide show of the summit posted soon.

We have a very sneaky visitor in our room this week! The leprechaun made a mess while we were outside playing! We read Leprechaun on the Loose and discussed different ways we could catch our not so friendly visitor. Please help your child make a leprechaun trap. We will set our traps on Thursday.

I recently sent home a letter about the kindergarten yearbook. Please fill it out and return it in your child’s binder. This will help give us an idea of how many books to order. If you have not gotten a chance to see the yearbook from last year you are more than welcome to look at it.

March 2nd-6th

Happy Tuesday! I cannot believe it is already March! I feel so blessed to teach these children and be apart of their lives. Thank you for all you do to make a class so successful!

What a great weekend!! I know everyone had a great time playing in the snow. Please feel free to let your child bring in pictures to share. We had an extra long share time on Monday as they discussed all their snow adventures.

Remember to have your child bring a book to school tomorrow for the book exchange. We will have a special time to read our new books.

Thursday is fast approaching! I wanted to give you an update. As you know Thursday is the character parade. If your child is participating in the Governor's Summit they will not be able to participate in the parade. However they can still dress up and where their outfit for the day. The kids will need to wear their uniforms on stage. We will meet at the front of The Embassy Suites at 2:15. I will be standing there with volunteers to help make sure all the children get to the back room. There will also be volunteers to help you get where you need to be. The Conference will be almost over by the time we get there, therefore there will be NO seating. They will sneak you in the back for our little friend's debut! The kids will go on stage at 3:00. They will say "we want to graduate" three times. Once they have had their big speaking roll they will go back to the waiting room. Once the room has cleared out a little we will walk to you in the back of the ballroom. Please remember that you have to check your CHILD out from school. It will be the parents responsibility to take their child home from the conference. If for some reason you have an unexpected conflict please let me know! The Governor's office is expecting 18 children to be there. Please Please Please call or e-mail me if you have any questions!!!

On Friday, our school will "Walk for Diabetes." Please make sure your chid has appropriate shoes to walk in. If you would send in your collection envelope as soon as possible. Thank you for your support.

February 23rd-28th

Dear Parents,

I am pleased to inform you that our Kindergarten Class has been specially chosen by the Alabama Governor’s Office to participate in the 2009 Governor’s Dropout Prevention Summit. The Governor’s Office of Faith Based and Community Initiatives contacted me to see if my wonderful class would like to play a special role in this year’s conference and I gladly accepted, pending approval. The Summit will be held on Thursday, March 5Th 2009 at 3:00 pm at the Embassy Suites Hotel in Downtown Montgomery. The kids will get the opportunity to be on stage with the Governor and other State officials and will actually have a group speaking role!!! Furthermore, I was thrilled to know that each child would each receive a special certificate of appreciation, signed by the Governor, for their involvement!! There will be many great speakers their such as General Colon Powell's wife, Governor Riley, The State Superintendent of Education, and many more. I think this is a wonderful opportunity for our class. This is not a school related event. It is excused and encouraged. We will arrive their at 2:30 and we will go on stage at 3:00. It should only take about fifteen minutes. I need to know how many children will be able to attend. I will also need parent volunteers to help. If you would like your child to participate and you would like to help please e-mail me so I may get a head count. I need to know as soon as possible. If you have any questions please call me or e-mail me. My cell phone number is 251-422-5556. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to ask me!

Thursday is the character parade at 1:30. All parents are invited to come and watch their child parade through the school. Please remember that the character parade is for your child to dress like their favorite BOOK character not movie. I have already planned my book character.
