February 23rd-28th

Dear Parents,

I am pleased to inform you that our Kindergarten Class has been specially chosen by the Alabama Governor’s Office to participate in the 2009 Governor’s Dropout Prevention Summit. The Governor’s Office of Faith Based and Community Initiatives contacted me to see if my wonderful class would like to play a special role in this year’s conference and I gladly accepted, pending approval. The Summit will be held on Thursday, March 5Th 2009 at 3:00 pm at the Embassy Suites Hotel in Downtown Montgomery. The kids will get the opportunity to be on stage with the Governor and other State officials and will actually have a group speaking role!!! Furthermore, I was thrilled to know that each child would each receive a special certificate of appreciation, signed by the Governor, for their involvement!! There will be many great speakers their such as General Colon Powell's wife, Governor Riley, The State Superintendent of Education, and many more. I think this is a wonderful opportunity for our class. This is not a school related event. It is excused and encouraged. We will arrive their at 2:30 and we will go on stage at 3:00. It should only take about fifteen minutes. I need to know how many children will be able to attend. I will also need parent volunteers to help. If you would like your child to participate and you would like to help please e-mail me so I may get a head count. I need to know as soon as possible. If you have any questions please call me or e-mail me. My cell phone number is 251-422-5556. If you would like more information on this conference you can visit www.servealabama.gov and then click on Governor's Dropout Prevention Summit.

It is that time again! We will begin report card testing this week. Please take a few minutes each night and go over these tricky sight words. I would also suggest reviewing their personal data such as address, phone number, and birthday. I am so impressed by their progress I know they will all do great! If you have any questions please do not hesitate to ask me!

In math this week we will be discussing measurement. This is such a fun and hands on unit. We will begin with non-standard measurement and eventually move into standard measurement.

Our new letter for the week is Ff.

Thank you for bringing in your teddy bears on Friday. They had so much fun reading with them. Stuffed animals make great reading partners!

Next week is going to be wild! It is Reading Across America Week.

Monday we would love to have a volunteer come read to our class! Last year a dad came dressed in his air force uniform and brought pictures of the planes.

Tuesday we will have the walk for diabetes. Please make sure they have sneakers on.

Wednesday we will have a book exchange. You may bring in a book from home to swap with a friend or a new one. We will have a special time to read our new books.

Thursday is the character parade at 1:30. All parents are invited to come and watch their child parade through the school. Please remember that the character parade is for your child to dress like their favorite BOOK character not movie. I have already planned my book character. Last year I was a giant foot from The Foot Book by, Dr. Seuss!

Thank you to Aubreyel's mom for a great fun Friday! We read Mrs. Spitzer's Garden and made flower pens and had a flower snack! Thank you so much!
